Two post-doctoral research fellows are required for a period of up to 4.5 years to work on an EU funded collaborative project ALIZ-E. You will be involved in research into long-term memory and category learning for humanoid robots, using the Aldebaran Nao humanoid robot as main research platform.
ALIZ-E is a European funded Integrated Project to study long-term human-robot interaction. ALIZ-E: “Adaptive Strategies for Sustainable Long-Term Social Interaction”. The ALIZ-E consortium consists of 7 academic partners (Plymouth as coordinator, Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research, Imperial College, University of Hertfordshire, National Research Council – Padova), one hospital (San Raffaele del Monte Tabor, Italy) and one SME (Gostai, Paris). ALIZ-E runs for 54 months starting on 1 March 2010.
You will be part of the Centre for Robotics and Neural Systems http://www.tech.plym.ac.uk/SOCCE/CRNS/ at the University of Plymouth under the supervision of Dr Tony Belpaeme and Prof Angelo Cangelosi. You will also collaborate with the other European and international partners of the ALIZ-E consortium. The CRNS is one of the top computer science research groups in the UK, with 13 academic staff, 7 Research Fellows and over 30 PhD students.
Recruitment and selection will be based on individual merit, however, we should particularly like to encourage applications from women, black and minority ethnic people who are under-represented in the Faculty of Science and Technology.
You must have a PhD in robotics, computer science or artificial intelligence or related disciplines, preferably with expertise in cognitive robotics, machine learning and/or computational modelling. Good programming skills are essential.
Interviews will be held at the end of January 2010, with a proposed start date of March 2010.
For an informal discussion, please contact Dr Tony Belpaeme by email tony.belpaeme@plymouth.ac.uk or telephone 01752 586212, although applications must be made in accordance with the details shown to the left.
